Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo entered the NFL’s concussion protocol on Monday, after suffering a concussion in the Raiders’ 23-18 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night Football.
Garoppolo was sacked by Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt late in the first half, and he appeared to be banged up after the play. However, he remained in the game and finished the contest.
He took a few more hits throughout the game being sacked a total of 4 times.
After the game, Garoppolo was evaluated for a concussion, and he was placed in the concussion protocol on Monday.
Garoppolo’s concussion is a major blow to the Raiders’ offense. He is the Raiders’ starting quarterback, and was expected to lead this team to wins this season.
It is unclear whether Garoppolo will be out of action against the Chargers in Los Angeles for their week 4 divisional matchup, He will need to clear the concussion protocol before he can return to practice.
Coach McDaniels didn’t want to commit to quarterback Brian Hoyer in the event of Jimmy Garoppolo missing week 4. The team still has rookie Aidan O’Connell who has yet to be “Active” this season.
It is important for Garoppolo to take his time and recover fully before returning to the field.
