The Las Vegas Raiders reportedly offered running back Josh Jacobs a Multi year contract worth around $12 million per year before the deadline, according to NFL Media’s Mike Garafolo.
The offer is a significant raise from what would be Jacobs’ salary of $10.091 million, which he is making on the franchise tag in 2023. Jacobs is entering his fifth season in the NFL and has been a two-time Pro Bowl selection. He has rushed for over 1,000 yards in three of his four seasons, including a career-year last season leading the league in rushing yards and yards from scrimmage.
After the report came out about the Offer Jacobs went to Twitter.
Jacobs is reportedly seeking a contract that would give him the security that he desires & very much deserves.
It is also possible that the two sides could reach a compromise and come to terms on a new deal next off season.
The Raiders are hoping to build a contender around Jacobs and Wide Receiver Davante Adams. A new deal for Jacobs would be a major step in that direction. Jacobs and the team can agree to a new 1 year deal but a long term deal is out the window until next off season.
If JJ can stay healthy, he could be a key part of the Raiders’ offense for years to come.
The offer from the Raiders is potentially a good one, but it comes down to guaranteed money and unfortunately we don’t know what the full offer was at this time.
Ultimately, it is up to Jacobs to decide whether to accept the Raiders’ Tag or sign a new 1 year deal to try and earn a little more than what the tag would give him much like Giants Running Back Saquon Barkeley did. At the end of the day Jacobs is going to do what he feels is necessary for him and his family. I personally don’t blame him for wanting security. My fingers are crossed for Jacobs, and all the fans who want to see him in the Silver & Black in 2023.
