The Miami Dolphins have made an exploratory call to the Las Vegas Raiders to inquire about the availability of running back Josh Jacobs, according to The Athletic’s Vic Tafur.

Jacobs is a two-time Pro Bowler, 2022 Rushing champ, and 1st team All Pro. However, he and the Raiders were unable to agree on a long-term contract extension, and Jacobs has yet to sign the tag. It was reported Earlier this week by Vic Tafur & followed up a few days later by The Las Vegas Review Journal’s Vinny Bonsignore that they expect Jacobs to be back before week 1 vs Denver.

Jacobs shot down the rumor that he plans on ending his holdout and will be back before week 1 via Twitter and quickly deleted the response.

The Raiders are reportedly not interested in trading Jacobs, but the Dolphins could still make a strong offer. They have a number of draft picks that they could use to sweeten the pot.

The offer would have to be one the front office can’t refuse, but in todays NFL teams do not offer 1st round picks or anything close to that for running backs.

The Raiders are in a tough spot with Jacobs. They want to keep him, but they don’t want to pay him market resetting money. Jacobs has stated he wants to be a Raider but it has to make sense for him. If Jacobs is in the building come week 1 it will most likely be because the front office has added some incentives to the 10.1M tag and could resume long term extension talks next off-season.

It is good to hear the regime values their star Running back and have no interest in trading him. Jacobs is a building block for this franchise, one that would help push the team back into relevancy. It remains to be seen whether Jacobs will actually be back by week 1 but if I had to guess I think something gets done and the Raiders get their Star Rusher back in the building.
