TRADING FOR TREY LANCE WOULD NOT BENEFIT THE RAIDERS

The Raiders quarterback room is slowly sliding into a dark abyss amongst the news that was revealed over the weekend about Jimmy Garoppolo’s foot injury. There has been speculation growing that Jimmy G may be cut from the Raiders due to the conditions made in the addendum that was placed in his contract. New questions continue to swirl around the heads of many Raider fans about who will be the next man up if Garoppolo is either injured or cut from the team this season. Is it Aiden O’Connell? Brian Hoyer? Another name has quietly built into the conversation now. Trey Lance of the 49ers.

You may be thinking why is Trey Lance out of any other option that could be out there such as Carson Wentz, Nick Foles, Cam Newton, or Teddy Bridgewater for a replacement? Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report believes the Raiders must put in a call & inquire about a trade with the 49ers for their quarterback Trey Lance. It’s quite a tough thought to roll on, considering the Raiders need help in the QB room. Although, Lance is bound to be a circus of problems if that were to happen. At what cost as well? Let’s dive into why Trey Lance would not land on the Raiders radar.

Coming off of being the No. 3 overall pick in the 2021 NFL draft, Trey Lance is a quarterback that holds the potential in utilizing all the tools to become a starter one day in the league. But he’s only played 8 games so far in his pro career just to show not enough of who he is yet. Last year Lance took over as the starter after week 2 when Jimmy Garppolo suffered a foot injury that left him out for the entire season. In late September of last season, Lance broke his fibula and tore his deltoid and syndesmotic ligaments which required surgeryThis birthed the uprising to the 3rd string quarter, Brock Purdy to take the reigns up in San Franciso. Injury concerns over a rehbitlaitng Trey Lance would result in additional problems that the Raiders don’t need.

Aside from injury concerns, a vital part of Trey Lance’s mechanics is his accuracy. Trey Lance, a 6’4 224 lbs quarterback who is praised for his great size, quick speed, and cannon of an arm is missing an important element to his blueprint of a potential future star… accuracy. It wouldn’t be a very pleasant site seeing Lance not connecting passes to the best wide receiver in the league (Davante Adams) Jakobi Meyers, rookie tight end Michael Mayer or anyone lined up in that receiving offense. Raiders head coach Josh McDaniels is known to groom young quarterbacks. Lance is only 23 & still has a lot to learn a system he would fit in. The benefit would be for McDaniels but questionable one for the Raiders on developing an ideal starter. Another concern is what will the 49ers list the price for Trey Lance?Trey Lance reporting to the 49ers OTA’s to improve his throwing mechanics.

I don’t imagine something high-end anywhere as a first or second-round draft pick. But Lance fairly sits on a trade value worth a third-round pick at most. As young as Trey Lance is, he has a lot to prove that he can be an effective quarterback that teams would look for to promote as their franchise starter. But it’s not the route the Raiders would like to risk, avoiding trouble as it looms past them. Meanwhile, the Raiders look focused on their current plans with their primary starter, Jimmy Garoppolo. No setbacks have been reported on Jimmy’s rehab assignment, it’s all in due time to see if he can report to mandatory training camp later this year. The Raiders are excited to have Garoppolo and his leadership will affect the team in a positive matter. Expect Trey Lance to stay in San Francisco for now and have no interest in being shipped to Las Vegas.
